SQL Server: Writing SQL Queries for Report Authors

Prerequisites: Windows operating system literacy.
Summary: Report authors need to be able to extract data from a variety of data sources including relational databases. Although using the Query Designer can facilitate building datasets, gaining an understanding of SQL constructs will enable report authors to code queries that retrieve the required data as efficiently as possible.
This hands-on workshop uses mainly examples to elaborate on the following SQL features:
  • Using SELECT statements to retrieve data
  • Grouping and summarizing data
  • Joining data from multiple tables (inner and outer joins)
  • Using case expressions and subqueries
Objectives: Upon completion of this course, delegates should be able build queries from scratch as well as using the Query Designer to satisfy various end-user Reporting Services requirements.
